When I first started drawing, I was in high school in Ottawa Lake, Michigan, many years ago. I enjoyed our assignments. It brought to mind one assignment where the art teacher had the class go outside and draw what we saw. I remember drawing the trees I saw.
Some Artwork I have done
When I graduated from high school, I was able to attend an art class in Sylvania, Ohio, where one of the classes we had was a live model to paint. I enjoyed that as well. It was an oil painting class. My parents owned a motel in Toledo, Ohio, and I was able to paint a few pictures for some of the rooms.
Television Show
There was a television show where an artist taught oil painting. I liked his technique, so I painted a few of his pictures he had completed during the hour segment. Some of those pictures my mother liked and wanted to place at my parents’ motel. This is one that I painted. My uncle was a professional sign painter of Troy Signs, who lived in St. Louis, MO. When he saw the painting (the one on the right), he wanted it. I gave it to him. Several years later, he returned it to me before he died. I really appreciated him doing that.
It has been a long time since I picked up a paintbrush, charcoal, watercolor, acrylic, or pencil to draw. It just doesn’t seem to be enough time these days.
I had painted a picture of an eagle that I gave to the youngest brother of my mother. The head looked like a chicken. I had to fix it. After correcting the head, I noticed the feet were too far below the body. I was on vacation when I was living in Texas and did not have enough yellow for its feet. So I left the painting with two sets of feet. I have it now, and I am going to change the feathers and rearrange the feet when I get the time. I hope it will be days and not years this time.
First Painting Job
When I was first married, my husband had gone to Toledo University and saw an acrylic painting job that he thought I would be able to do. I got the job painting for a woman who owns her own business. She would have special painting jobs from her customers who wanted to have needlepoint work for their household items.
Some wanted a pillow design for their piano seat or a picture to place on the wall. She would draw the picture, and I would paint the picture on a needlepoint canvas. I used colors for each of the colored threads to be used in the design she wanted me to paint. That lasted for a few months until she got sick and had to close her business.
